Jennifer Bilyk
I am a self-taught artist and a longtime resident of the Okanagan with a move to Penticton in 2021. I have been painting consistently since 2015. Once I found paint, I have never looked back!
Although my subject choices have evolved over time, I have found what I love to paint most. I am currently working on two series. One is called "Those Things We Do" in which I depict moments that bring a sense of escape or calm away from our hectic, stressful lives. These are often the simplest things in life such as reading a good book, spending time outdoors into the sun, savouring a good cup of coffee or splashing in the waves on a warm summer day. I am particularly drawn to depicting movement of water and figurative painting both above and below the surface. The beautiful size, shape colours and varieties of flowers are also very intriguing to me.
I paint from photographs and will often zoom into one segment of the picture that I like best as I feel "closeup" provides a unique perspective.
Acrylic paint is my medium of choice with some use of gouache. I like that these mediums can be used in different ways to mimic both the softness of watercolours or be intense, bold and graphic.
